 CoP 1 - Assessment Starting Point for Teaching

MAZE is optional we don't need to do it if doing Running Records/PROBE. 

Where do you find the Asessment tools to gather base line data?

When you have base data, look at where the majority of the class sit, start from there. You can always do mini lessons to catch other up. But in reading try to focus on correct Taumata for that age group. 

If you have a mixed level class e.g. Y4-6 start at Taumata 13 which is the starting point for Y5. Then in small group teaching pull up the Y4s.

CoP 2 - Getting Started

New terminology for students, help them build their vocabulary. 

Advice from a Teacher 2 years in:

• With this all in mind to start he time allowance is huge until you all get familiar with the patterns and structure of the lessons.
• For students working on lower levels there are Chapter Books you can get, so students don't feel like reading baby books. 
• Check Journals and that there are plenty, and returned in a timely manner
• Routines take the time to get them established.

Yes this is Research Based Best Practice, however teacher are expected to take it on further and make it their own by using the templates.

If getting through PhOM in allocated time (20 minutes), then bring Better Spelling.

Taumata (e.g. 13, for age group) PhOM can be done in any order, see what the resources you end up using link. 

Links to Reading and Writing ensure fidelity, make sure using them.

Integrity comes from using resources at the speed for your class/students needs.

            - Repetition will lead to engagement by all, as routines are established

        2. - Use best fit method when have split level classes
