HAL - Healthy Active Learning

Kia Ora,

It is wonderful to be part of this again. I started my journey with HAL a few years ago around the time of COVID. Then I changed schools and once again I was about to leave and they joined the journey.

We started with Planning for the Year looking at The focus for each term, the outcomes, the purpose of your Health and Physical Education, Achievement Objectives, lessons, skills and activities, and connections to other areas of inquiry.

Our facilitator is Nikki, is going to recap activities with a twist for us:

  • Helicopters - tag game (four helicopter pads made with cones, each pad a different colour and two taggers with noodles)
    • respectful and responsible use of noodles (if I hear a bang, not being respectful)
    • if tagged - consequence eg star jumps
    • Strategy what changes can be made to the tag - step and stretch add in tagged  movement jump noddle/ ball smaller noodles,
    • Change language (Maori, Tongan) gave get to colour, 6 pads more taggers,
    • Long run and short runs smaller pads how many in a square boundary
  • Flip the Hoop - target game,
    • STEP: Space Task Equipment People
    • Spread team apart, for younger students shorter distance - 2 or 3 games
    • Ball if on grass, bean bag, mini frisbee, tennis ball, dodgeball
    • Bucket instead of hoop, bowl into
    • Pairs if want kids to run, 3 is a good number
    • Throwing back or running back
  • End ball - the start of invasion games
    • STEP: Space Task Equipment People
When then discussed the skills students learn for target games and invasion games:

In-class support will start in Term 2 on Tuesdays
